Limagi are Snail people who carry their shells on their backs. Surprisingly agile, but still deep thinkers.
Gender, procreation and family
Limagi are hermaphrodites, they are all one gender, both male and female at the same time, but they need a second Limagi to procreate, both fertilizing the other, both laying a set of eggs on their own after. Children are usually raised in cooperation by a tribe. Sometimes knowing their exact parents, sometimes not. They view family as something larger than most other species, and their “concept of familiy” is often extended to friends, and friends of the family at some point.
Advancement
- Ability Score Increases. Your Charisma, Wisdom or Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Dexterity score increases by 1.
- Age. Limagi mature fast, they are considered grown-ups at 10. They live until they are about 60. Still they are quick to learn and have a knack for magic. So they often accomplish things faster than others.
- Alignment. Most Limagi are Lawful Good, putting much weight to functioning within a society and family. But exceptions exist.
- Size. You are about 5 feet, not including your shell. Your size is medium.
- Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 ft.
- Languages. You can read, speak, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate.
- Natural learner. You gain proficiency in the skills Arcana, Medicine, Nature and Religion.
- Natural Armor. Your shell provides you a base AC of 15 (your Dexterity modifier doesn’t affect this number). Any armor you want to use must be customised for you (to allow for your connection to your shell), and you gain only half the AC bonus (rounded down). If you are using a shield, you can apply the shield’s bonus as normal.
- Retreat into Shell. You can withdraw into your shell as an action. Until you emerge, you gain a +4 bonus to your AC, and you have advantage on Strength and Constitution saving throws. While in your shell, you are prone, your speed is 0 and can’t increase, you have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws, you can’t take reactions, and the only action you can take is a bonus action to emerge from your shell. While having armor equipped, you may not retreat into your shell.
- Slime Coated. Checks to grapple you roll with disadvantage. You cannot use this trait while using Retreat into Shell.
- Magic Sight. Your keen senses can focus to see the presence of magic. You gain the ability to cast the Detect Magic spell, but only as a ritual. Your spellcasting ability for this spell is your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. You can also cast this spell normally with any spell slots you have.
- Salt Vulnerability. Salt is detrimental to Limagi. You cannot consume any foods that have salt, nor can you come in contact with saltwater.
